It was a "No Contest" as far as the result went, as the strong Leeds team was superior in every department. John Stiles opened the score with a powerful diving header after ten minutes and the Harrogate keeper, Fenton, was kept busy before he conceded the second goal after half an hour, when a low free-kick from Stiles from the left was hammered into the roof of the net from six yards by the hungry Bobby Davison. Dylan Kerr scored two minutes before the interval with a rocket shot from twenty yards and Kevin Noteman got his first goal after being put through by Vince Hilaire to make the score 4-0 at the half-time break. Neil Parsley replaced Peter Haddock at Right Back, Neil Aspin replaced David Rennie at Left Half and Mark Aizlewood replaced Gary Speed at Outside Right, after the half-time break. Kevin Noteman got his second with an angled shot from the left after sixty-two minutes and then Ronnie Sinclair replaced Neil Edwards in the goal and Darren Edmonds replaced Vince Hilaire at Outside Left after sixty-five minutes. Noteman completed his hat-trick and the scoring in the seventy-fifth minute, when, after a John Stiles shot had been saved at the expense of a corner, the same player took it and found Neil Aspin at the near post and his flick was finished off by Noteman from close range.
